Traditional knowledge includes skills, practices, and innovations developed by communities over generations—often linked to agriculture, medicine, crafts, and environmental stewardship. This knowledge is valuable but vulnerable to exploitation and misappropriation. CIPN works with communities, NGOs, and government bodies to document and protect traditional knowledge under Nepalese and international frameworks. We advise on defensive protection (preventing patents on existing knowledge) and positive protection (enabling controlled use and benefit-sharing). By safeguarding traditional knowledge, we help preserve cultural identity, promote fair use, and ensure communities receive benefits from their heritage.
